Connor Smith was added to the Boro’ first team squad right at the end of the summer 2015 transfer window; the Watford midfielder arriving at Stevenage on a month-long loan. It was a case of manager Teddy Sheringham taking the chance to bolster what seemed like an already crowded midfield contingent.
Connor Smith: Before Boro’
After starting his career with local side Mullingar Athletic in Ireland, Smith was snapped up by Watford in 2010 after finishing runner-up to Ben Greenhalgh on TV show Football’s Next Star. But he had to wait to make his debut at the Hornets; his first sample of first team football coming at Wealdstone instead.
A successful stint at the Stones was followed up by a loan spell at Gillingham, although in between he signed professional terms with Watford. He also made his first team debut in the Championship. He arrived at the Lamex still seen very much as one for the future, however, with Boro’ giving him further chance to prove what he can do with three starts and a sub appearance.
