With Alan Julian being in such inspired form after arriving from Brentford, it meant Shane Gore saw little in the way of first team action. It’s an unlucky situation to be in; being back-up to someone at the peak of their powers. But that’s just how it goes for some stoppers. And finding someone to sit on the bench and provide that cover every week isn’t easy. For Boro’, however, Gore would be that man.
The goalkeeper had been let go by Barnet after their title-winning 2004-5 season. But just three starts for us during the 2005-6 campaign can’t have sat easy with Gore. Not least as he had the talent and experience to be number one. So, we can’t fault him for leaving us in summer 2006. While his time with us wasn’t as fruitful as first hoped, his presence did not go unnoticed. Thankfully, he’s gone on to forge a decent career; most notably at Chesham United, where he played more than 300 times.
