Neil Mustoe Player Profile
Debut: Nuneaton Borough (H, 3-1), 18/01/2003
John Dreyer, in his caretaker manager role, moved to sign Mustoe from Dr Martens League high-flyers Gloucester City in January 2003 to bolster his midfield for an ensuing relegation battle.
Mustoe came with a lot of experience, having started at Manchester United and moving to Cambridge United, before settling in Gloucester. However, his league ambitions would not be satisfied outside the Conference and he found himself joining his former Cambridge United acquaintances in the form of Dreyer and David Preece at Broadhall Way.
The timing of his arrival could not have been more ill-fated, as only days later Graham Westley arrived, and his participation was limited to 25 minutes of on-the-field play. His efforts were noted though, and he will be remembered best for a fantastic crunching tackle with his first touch in a Boro’ shirt, and also for supplying Simon Wormull with the pass to score a consolation goal in a 2-1 loss at Gravesend.
