Biography
Into the fold during the summer 2026 transfer window came Terry Taylor; the midfielder fresh from his three-year stay at Charlton Athletic. It wasn’t actually the first time we’d chanced our arm at trying to secure his services. We’d looked into a possibility of bringing him to Broadhall Way in summer 2025. That didn’t come off, but both parties kept the fires burning (as it were). And the deal eventually crossed the line 12 months later; Boro’ securing Taylor’s services on a free after he was allowed to leave the Addicks.
Maybe it was the prospect of Harvey White leaving our ranks that made us double down on our efforts to sign Taylor. Then again, maybe it was a deal we wanted to make happen regardless. Either way, the midfielder had no doubt as to where he’d saw his career heading in summer 2026. “Those conversations stayed with me and when it came to being out of contract,” he said. “I had more discussions and the turning point was when I came to the Stevenage training ground and spoke to the manager again. They laid everything out for me and I just got a really good vibe from it.”
Terry Taylor: Before Boro’
Born in Irvine, Taylor’s career started as a youth player on the books at Aberdeen. But, before he had the chance to turn pro, he moved south of the border to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. It was actually here where he made the step up to become a ‘senior’ player. Mind you, he didn’t get a chance to make his mark there – despite making his first team debut. It’d be away on loan at Grimsby Town where he’d get a proper crack of the whip… until injury and a change in management there turned his stay there into what might be deemed ‘less-than-a-success’.
In Februry 2021, Taylor left Wolves and signed for Burton Albion; spending two-and-a-half seasons with the Brewers and in their first team picture throughout. His efforts there did enough to convince Charlton to snap him up in summer 2023. That said, his time there wouldn’t be the most rewarding as far as the Addicks were concerned. He ended up featuring more times for Northampton Town in that period, with two loan spells at Sixfields. The first saw him move there in January 2025 for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, while the second was a season-long loan deal for 2025-26.
