Lenny Brown is a young forward who the club unveiled as one of our first-year scholars ahead of the new 2024-5 League One campaign. Eight lads, including Brown (obviously), made the grade that summer; part of the U17 age group and who needed to be on a scholarship agreement before they could turn professional. Of course, it’s a case of one step at a time at such an early age. Yet, taking that step or getting that endorsement is clearly a huge vote of confidence in the player’s abilities. And it also brought with it the chance to rub shoulders with the first team.
In fact, Brown had already gained exposure of first team life during the 2023-4 season after providing numerous assists for the U16s. A “hardworking, tough and talented” player, the forward certainly had attributes to succeed at the Boro’. In early October 2024, he made the bench for our Football League Trophy match away to Peterborough United. In doing so, no doubt he and those around him hoped it was the start of a blossoming football career. And if we get some assists and goals at the start of the journey, it only bodes well for the player’s future in the game.
