Yemi Odubade

Pace and power define one of Boro’s summer signings in 2009; Yemi Odubade brought in to play either as a winger or a striker. That call would be made, as you’d expect, by boss Graham Westley after picking up the player on a free. For whatever reason, Oxford United decided to let him go. So, GW saw their loss as our gain in the hunt for promotion to the Football League. While some might see Odubade as a hit and miss player, many at Boro’ were certain in regarding him as the former.

Capable of creating something out of nothing, Odubade’s Boro’ debut was a fairly “meh” affair. But it was in no way a marker for what was to come. He grew into matters during his time at the club during the 2009-10 campaign. A tireless and determined player, Yemi ran and ran and ran throughout the title-winning campaign; picking up his fair share of goals to finish as our leading scorer for the season. Never afraid to pull wide and let the midfield come into the action either, Odubade repaid Westley’s faith time and again.

Yemi Odubade: After Boro’

Odubade’s efforts were rewarded in 2010 with promotion to the Football League; featuring sporadically throughout our debut season in League Two. January 2011 saw Odubade move to Newport County on loan, however. It was part of a deal that saw forward Craig Reid move to Hertfordshire. So, this made it seem as if the curtain had fallen on his stay at the Lamex. And – in summer 2011 – the player moved to Gateshead to start a new chapter of his career away from us.
