Who are Geddington Montrose?
This is one that won’t take long to get through. Put simply, we don’t know a huge amount about this former club. We know they came from the Northants village of Geddington. That bit is almost too obvious. But this is a football team that appears to have left little trace of itself. Now, don’t get us wrong. There does seem to be a club under this name competing at youth level. A senior side? Not so much. Indeed, it turns out others are seeking answers too. So, what do we know?
Well, the side turns up on the Football Club History Database‘s radar in 1969 as joining the United Counties League. In their first season, they finished second in Division Three. This division was rebadged as Division Two in 1972 and – three seasons later – they were champions. It earned them a place in Division One, which they won at their first attempt. After that, however, it was downhill for the club. They finished in the top four in the next three season – but then fell away dramatically, ending up bottom in 1981 and leaving the league.
We have no idea what happened after that and – indeed – whether that was the last of the senior club.
