Ford Sports: Club Profile

Later called Daventry United, Ford Sports represented the car company’s Daventry works in the United Counties League. In what ended up being a shock outcome, the Motormen beat us in the early days of the 1980-1 season; Boro’ going down 3-2 at home. We got our swift revenge, however; knocking them out of the UCL Cup and then crowing our title win with a 5-0 away win; a game that got switched to BHW so we could be handed the trophy.

The best years came after we parted. After twice winning the Division One title themselves in the early 1990s, they were promoted to the Premier Division at the second attempt. The Motormen won the Premier Division title twice around the turn of the century too. In 2007, they were relegated back to Division One and changed name. Within three years, the club made it back into the Premier Division. Another three years on and they folded.
