Cheltenham Town v Stevenage: Woo-oo-oo-ooo, can you feel the force?

Woo-oo-oo-ooo, can you feel the force? Yes, the real thing is back as League Two action makes itself known once more to our various levels of consciousness. Of course, we’re contractually obliged to mention that home humbling against Oxford in some competition or other. So, take that as our duties well and truly dealt with. It’s now time to move on to more important matters: tearing up League Two. And where do we pick up from where we left off at the Hive? Why, it’d be Cheltenham – home of GCHQ. Testing. Testing. Did you get that boys…

Cheltenham Town v Stevenage: Woo-oo-oo-ooo, can you feel the force?

The Opposition:
In light of Big Brother watching us from the leafy surrounds of Cheltenham, we best be careful of how we put this next bit into words. But, this is the only fixture to go down in Boro’ folklore as the subject of a bomb scare. That’s old news now, however; a relic of our mutual Conference times. Back then, like, Chelters were a bit good and that. In our first six meetings, we won none and scored just twice. In fact, when we joined them in the League, old habits and all that; them winning 1-0 at their gaff in September 2010. And then the tide turned…

Since then, we’ve taken a huge slice of the pie in terms of points on offer. In the last five, we’ve only dropped points once and that was a goalless non-entity of a game last September. It means we have much to feel good about in this trip, although we have much to be wary of too. Teams aren’t so bothered about historical match-ups, and nor do we. Usually. Just ‘cos we’re on the pleasant side of town as far as recent results go, it doesn’t mean they can’t find a wedge to move across. Or we’re evicted from Winningtown. Population, unrecorded.

The Form:
How you call this one could be rooted in current form or the stats and that you put into the betulator. For us, it’s quite plain and it’s quite simple. We’re unbeaten, we’re looking solid and we’re rootin’ tootin’ hootin’. For Cheltenham, hips don’t lie. They’re 23 now and will they live to be 24, the way things are going we don’t know. But they’re down there. And the only three points they have from their exploits thus far are at the expense of Crawley Town. Who are the only side below ’em. Of course, it’s all embryonic. We don’t always start well.

Maybe they’re doing an “us”?

Here’s our last six overall from kickoff.co.uk – and their last six at home; our last six on the road…

Let’s hope we’ll get our kicks, with no messin’ from Craig Hicks! Yet another newbie, it seems…
