It’s the end of the season so it’s that time of the year again! Stevenage Supporters’ Association FC are delighted to announce the date of the fourth annual Mitchell Cole Memorial Tournament. The event, which once again pits Boro’ fans against rival sides in the name of charity, is taking place this weekend with the ruddy bloody good aim of raising monies for Cardiomyopathy UK.
Mitchell Cole Memorial Tournament
The 2016 Mitchell Cole Memorial Tournament will be a six-team affair. Not content with organising the tournament, Keith Bell will be hoping to inspire Stevenage to the title. But, to do that, the team will have to overcome the challenges of Barnet, London Carlisle, Cambridge United and Peterborough United*, as well as an all-star select 11 managed by Mitchell’s brother Ben Cole.
*Peterborough United replaced AFC Wimbledon, with Dons’ fans being unable to attend due to the League Two playoffs.
Arlesey Town’s Armadillo Stadium is the venue for this year’s Mitchell Cole Memorial Tournament – entry to the stadium is free, but donations will be welcome. It is a charity event, after all! There’s also a raffle, with some awesome prizes up for grabs – Luke Freeman’s match-worn shirt; Mark Beard’s 2007 Wembley jacket; a signed Dean Wells away shirt and more. Tickets are £1 each.
Tournament organiser Keith Bell told the Offy Site, “It’s been a fantastic privilege and honour to do something in memory of Mitchell, who gave us plenty of fantastic memories in a Stevenage shirt and in football overall. I will never forget Wembley in 2007 when his goal sparked the comeback and his eight minute hat-trick away at Eastbourne, to name a couple of memories.
“I hope you are all able to come along and support a fantastic day in memory of a fantastic player.”
