Match preview

Stevenage are currently sat 20th in the Football League Two, with 14 points to their name after 15 matches. Stevenage have managed to score 18 goals so far this season, which averages just over one goal a game. The problem for Boro’ has been keeping the goals out at the other end. Teddy Sheringham’s side have conceded 25 goals so far – one of the worst in the league.

Home form is helping us stay out of the relegation zone. At the Lamex, we have picked up 10 points – the other four being earned on our travels. Top goalscorer so far this season is right midfielder Chris Whelpdale. In nine games this season, he has scored three goals and has made three too.

At this moment in time we are five points clear of being in the bottom two, which gives a little breathing space. But we do not want to sit back on that margin because it will creep up on us throughout the season. We will go into this game wanting to get all three points as we are the home side; we need to pick up the points at home if we are to stay in the Football League come the end of the season.

Oxford United currently sit in one of the three automatic promotion spots, along with Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth. It couldn’t be much closer, with second place down to seventh being separated by just three points. Every team has it all to play for to secure one of the three spots come the end of the season. Oxford have been consistent both at home and away from home.

The Yellows have picked up 15 points on home turf and, when they travel away, they have managed to get themselves 12 points from seven matches. A player in great form is attacking midfielder Kemar Roofe. He has played 11 game this season, hitting the back of the net on five occasions and putting a team mate in three times.

If Oxford are to maintain their good run until the end of the season, they need to keep this man fit and happy. Oxford don’t struggle to score goals as they have scored 22 times in 15 matches already this season; this being one of the best in the league. They will be hoping they can keep the goals flowing when they face Stevenage on Saturday.

Team news

Stevenage will have a full squad for the game on Saturday, with only Brett Williams one booking away from a suspension.

Oxford will also have a full strength squad when they visit the Lamex Stadium, with no risk of suspension.

Betting preview

Oxford will be going to Stevenage looking for nothing less than a win, arriving full of confidence after their last three matches on the road returned two wins and a draw. Stevenage, however, won their last match at home and this could see a start of good run for the team. Sheringham’s men will try to take the game to Oxford and get on top of their opposition, looking to get something from this game and drag themselves as far away from the drop zone as they possibly can.

1-1 draw – 6/1
