It was like getting two for the price of one at the end of the summer 2016 transfer window; doubling up on our loan recruits from Aston Villa with Harry McKirdy. McKirdy followed his Villa colleague Henry Cowans to the Lamex; Boro’ looking to add quality to their squad after a shaky start to affairs. He was actually the second forward brought in on that deadline day too, with the Hertfordshire club struggling in front of goal.
Harry McKirdy: Before Boro’
The striker had been with Aston Villa since the age of 14. For comparison, he joined Boro’ aged 19. Prior to his Midlands move, he was on the books at slightly-north-of-the-Midlands side Stoke City, before signing on at Villa Park as a scholar in 2013. Boro’ was his first real taste of senior football.
McKirdy missed a large chunk of Villa’s U21 2015-6 campaign because of injury. He came back, however, towards the end of the season and in stunning style. He was the golden boot winner as Villa won the HK Soccer 7s; the player showing that he had a clear eye for goal. It was something Boro’ got a little glimpse of too during his time here…
