Graham Westley‘s first move into the transfer market in early 2010 saw defender Darragh Ryan come to us from Irish club St Patrick’s Athletic. It wasn’t Ryan’s first taste of English football, but he did come to us after a number of seasons playing on the other side of the Irish Sea. With experience from his time at Cork City and two spells at UCD under Ryan’s belt, his time in England had included time at Brighton & Hove Albion and Crawley Town.
With Mark Roberts, Michael Bostwick and Jon Ashton ahead of him in the pecking order to begin with, Ryan didn’t have it easy upon his arrival at Broadhall Way. Indeed, a reserve outing aside, his stay here wasn’t to be a long one; Ryan not quite able to emulate fellow Irishman Darren Murphy in creating a role for himself at the club. He saw some action at Crawley once more after leaving us, before moving to Australia.
