The capture of young striker Craig Westcarr was a more drawn-out affair than manager Graham Westley would’ve liked in the 2008 close season. The forward’s former club, Kettering Town, made claims an illegal approach by us; allegations that were, of course, strongly denied. It failed to stop what seemed like a permanent move from taking place. After all, the striker had accepted terms to switch from the newly-promoted Poppies to us.
But, within a month of the 2008-9 season kicking off, Westcarr was back at Kettering – and the reason why was a source of much speculation.
Craig Westcarr: Before Boro’
The forward came with limited League experience; starting out at Nottingham Forest and going out on loan to Lincoln City and MK Dons respectively. In 2005, however, the player moved onto Cambridge United in 2005; scoring 8 goals in 31 appearances. Westcarr has international caps at England U15, U16, U17, U18 and U21 levels too. Obviously, a jump up to the senior team was one too far.
