After coming to us from Icknield Harts, Martin Lacey was Boro’s second gaffer; stepping into the shoes of Vic Folbigg in 1977. He certainly had good pedigree too. For us being a youth team at the time, Lacey’s record of winning silverware at his previous club was attractive. Things were going relatively well for the side as the 1977-8 season took shape. But then results started to go a bit awry. And, come the end of November and a defeat to Ware, Lacey was nowhere to be seen on the touchline. His resignation landed soon after. Not even two seasons in and Boro’ needed a third man in the dugout.
