Vic Folbigg is the man who took on the job of becoming Boro’s first-ever team manager after we were formed in the summer of 1976. His task at the start wasn’t an easy one. As he sought to give us a solid footing at youth team level, some of our best and brightest talents were being picked up by other clubs. Steve Ketteridge and Steve Ratcliffe, for example, landed themselves moves to top flight side Derby County. There was also the to-do that followed Athletic’s demise. It left the new Boro’ unable to use Broadhall Way as their planned home. In fact, all our fixtures were fulfilled away. Not the ideal start for a boss.
In summer 1977, Folbigg decided to step back as manager. Instead, he became our trainer/physio. Martin Lacey was named boss number two for Boro’. And the path to senior status continued…
