Beckton United came across Boro’s radar back in December 1985. But they left little clue as to their story after their demise. All we really know for sure here at BoroGuide Towers is that we played them – and beat them – in FA Vase Round Three. Apart from that, the trail seems to continue for another decade; lingering through into the mid-1990s, before the club seem to have folded. A new club with the same name formed years after – but it looks to be a Sunday League team and, judging by their Twitter, no longer active.

Beckton United: The Facts

Who are Beckton United?

This will be a short one to rattle through; Beckton United not a club on whom much information currently exists out there on that internet. The bits we do know are that, first, the club formed in 1966 as “Geevor”; changing their name to what we’d come to know them as in 1972. All the while during this period, you’d find them competing in the London Spartan League. We’d argue that success was, at best, limited. Fifth was the highest they’d finish in the league structure during the time they were in it.

The club also competed in the FA Vase on 11 separate occasions. One of those is what gave Boro’ cause to come up against them. But any further progress up the charts was halted by the fact they couldn’t do much better than a string of underwhelming league finishes. In fact, 10th is as high as they could achieve from the mid-1980s onwards. It would be 10th (out of 13) in which the club would complete its final-ever campaign too. In 1996, as we understand, the club folded and ceased to exist except in memory.
