Higham Town
If you were at the start of the Boro’ adventure, you’ll know Higham Town were one of the first sides that we came up against. After coming up against us in our first-ever season of senior football, the club merged with Rushden Rangers in 2007. For four straight seasons, the club were runners-up in United Counties League Division One between 1992 and 1996. In 1998, however, they went one better and won the title. As for our record against ’em, it’s impressive; twice winning 5-1. First it was during the 1980-1 league campaign, then it was in the United Counties League Cup in the 1983-4 season.
Since that 2007 merger with Rushden Rangers, a new Town side has come to life.

Club History
Who are Higham Town?
So, the history of the United Counties League dates back to 1890. Higham first became a member of the competition around nine decades before we did. But it didn’t stop us coming in and sweeping through the second tier of the league at the first attempt. For a bit of context, Higham were relegated into what was then called Division Two in 1961. Our first encounter was in October 1980, with Boro’ running out 3-1 winners at their gaff. Just over two months later, we repeated the trick – this time in a UCL Knockout Quarter Final.
The first two meetings were Boro’s 10th and 20th fixtures that season. We know what you’re thinking – wouldn’t it be great if the third meeting was Game No.30? But, no. It was, cruelly, Game No.31 in the adventure that recently passed No.2014. Mind you, it saw us take things up a gear. Not content with that pair of 3-1 wins, we weighed in with a 5-1 home win in the league. To be fair to Higham, they weren’t the only ones to take a big hammering off us that term. And they certainly ain’t no British Timken Athletic!
