Biography

With veteran stopper Chris Day out injured in September 2016, Stevenage were forced to find someone to cover his absence. The man to do just that was Callum Preston, drafted in on non-contract terms ahead of Boro’s trip to Wycombe Wanderers.

Callum Preston: Before Boro’

Stafford-born Preston had only been at National League North side Altrincham for a month before moving south to the Lamex. He had previously been on the books at Crawley Town, where he had made a handful of first-team appearances. Apart from a couple of loan spells earlier in his career, Crawley was the first club that gave Preston a taste of senior football.

It was at Birmingham City that the stopper had turned pro, with his time at St Andrews extending to seven years; six years in youth ranks, before a further season as a pro. In that final year with Brum, he made two loan switches; first to Worcester, then to AFC Telford. Not only that, but he has turned out for Wales U19 too.

Preston can also count Liverpool and Welsh league outift The New Saints as former clubs during his youth career.
