S&L Corby
Right up until 2018, the Foundrymen were members of the UCL. So, it’s little shock that you’ll be told it was our rise into the Premier Division in 1981 that caused us to meet. In total, we had six meetings; five of them going in our favour. Only the first, at the start of that 1981-2 campaign, went their way. After we left the UCL, they continued on; FCHD’s record of them deviating in 1989 when their name changed to Hamlet S&L for a three-season spell. But why did the UCL run come to an end in 2018?
Relegation. Ending up bottom of the table with 34 defeats from 38 wasn’t good. Nor was a tally of 154 goals conceded. Now, the Foundrymen are currently in the Northamptonshire Combination Premier Division.

Who are S&L Corby?
Founded in 1935, S&L Corby was – to start – the works team for Corby’s Stewarts & Lloyds Iron and Steel Company. The creation of Corby Town in 1948 did little to help the Foundrymen; many players upping sticks for the newer side and forcing what was left of S&L Corby to slog it out in the Kettering Amateur League. A 1954 title win set the scene for ’em to join the United Counties League in 1957, however.
How to get to S&L Corby

Take the A1(M) and A1 north as far as the A14 near Huntingdon; joining the A14 towards Kettering and the Midlands. At Junction 12, come off for the A6116 for Corby. Next, at the roundabout, take the third exit and head towards the town. It’ll be 8.4 miles or so until you reach the outskirts. Here, take the fourth exit at the roundabout for the A43.
After another 1.5 miles, take the first exit for the A427. A further mile down the road, take the third exit onto Lloyds Road (also the A6068). Go across one roundabout and then go right at the next one to cross the railway. At Pen Green Centre, turn left onto Occupation Road and the ground is on the right down Cannock Road.

Come out onto Station Road and turn left, before taking another left for Cottingham Road. After getting to the other side of the railway, turn right up Lime Trees Grove; going through West Glebe Park. Exit the park onto Rockingham Road and turn left. Turn left for Occupation Road and then keep an eye out on the right for the ground shortly after.
