Many fans were happy when the signing of Mathaeus Roberts was confirmed in summer 2025 off the back of an impressive pre-season. An attacking midfielder by trade, the player was one of a few trialists to feature for us. Few, however, showed quite as much impact and goalscoring ability as Roberts. It was inevitable, therefore, that Boro’ fans were wondering whether we were leaving matters to chance by not securing his services immediately.
Luckily, as the hope dictates, the announcement came in late July. Roberts had been without a club since his release from Ipswich Town U21s that summer. No doubt there was a point or two for the midfielder to prove as he looked to establish himself at Football League level. For us, of course, the important thing was getting a player who added dynamism to our attack. His ability one-on-one also seemed to stand out. It all boded well for a happy relationship.
