Forget Engerland’s triumphant march towards Russia 2018, this is where it is going to be at this weekend. Maybe not if you’re a neutral, but we’d ask what you were doing here if you are aligned with neither us nor them. For Sarlly’s Army, it’s the idea of a fourth straight win in the league that propels us headlong into this fixture. For our hosts, it is a slightly different tale. But we’re not giving you everything up front. We will be making you work for it, because it’s not as if you haven’t had an easy-enough week already.

The Opposition:
Crewe might not admit it, but we don’t think they like playing us much. Out of all the ‘new’ teams we have gone up against since joining the Football League, our record against the Railwaymen is up there with the leading lights. It’s almost inexplicable that we lost to them indoors last season; we’ve collected nine points from a possible nine at their gaff. And that includes a 3-0 win in the season we were relegated from League One. No pressure Daz, but there is an expectation being placed upon your representative shoulders here…
The Form:
Not convinced? Let’s take a look at Crewe’s recent form, then, and see if you are still holding out. Our hosts come into this still scratching around for a first league win since 9 September. Admittedly, it was a biggie; tonking Chesterfield 5-1. Look where the Spireites are in the table though. And, since then, they’ve been on the receiving end. Not so long ago, Carlisle went to Gresty Road and put five past the Railwaymen. Given our recent result in Cumbria, we have to be disappointed with anything less than seven. A flawless hypothesis.
