How Was It For You?

Boy in rage at computer gameMuch like one of those regrettable liaisons with a member of the opposite sex, no doubt Boro’ fans woke up yesterday morning – and perhaps even this morning – feeling rather awkward and disconsolate. Did that, y’know, happen? There is alas no avoiding the fact that Stevenage were brutally humbled in our own backyard by a forceful Swindon Town side. It was what you might call an “off day”. That’s our line anyway, and we’re determined to stick with it, even if no-one else out there is.

It seems we’re all agreed that few, if any, come out of the match with any credit. But the focus must now be on how they respond. The old cliche that you’re only as good as your last game is not applicable – we’re not as bad as the scoreline suggests, and the 29-point haul from 15 League One games is testament to that. What do you do when you fall off? You get straight back on and ride into the sunset.

In the course of supporting Stevenage, it has paid to not to get ahead of ourselves. The Conference title wasn’t won, to our mind, until Joel Byrom scored the second goal at Kidderminster; no game is over until the final whistle. After soaring high of late, it won’t hurt to come down with a gentle bump now and then. Despite losing that heavily, we are still a win from joint top – it could be so much worse.

And if you think it was bad, just remember we lost 4-1 at home to Canvey Island once…
