Danny Johnson was a young lad when he joined us on loan in January 2015, but it doesn’t mean the forward came to us without that much experience. Not by a long shot. He started his career in the north east, but arrived at the Lamex with his career already taking him to Spain. After that, however, it was his impressive return of goals in non-league that caught the attention of Graham Westley.
The start of Johnson’s footballing life was at his native Middlesbrough, before switching to Hartlepool United. This next one might seem like an odd move, but he swapped the north east for sunnier climes and made the move to Real Murcia B in Spain. It was, to be fair, a short stay. Back to England he came and it was Harrogate Town and Billington Synthonia who gave him his next chances.
It was after that, however, that people started to take notice. Guisborough Town might not be known to all. But, when you score 50 times in pretty much as many appearances, you have something about you. And it was this nous for goal that got Cardiff City interested. The Welsh club snapped him up and loaned him out. But the goals didn’t flow so fluently. This is the part of the story where we come in; swooping to see if that eye for goal could be brought back into focus. It could not, though.
