Oh – and don’t forget that he was first to save a spot kick in an FA Cup Final. Of course, it was unlikely that – after following son Sam to Boro’ in summer 2014 to take up a coaching role – he’d be called into action. But that’s just what happened; injuries forcing manager Graham Westley to name him on the bench in October 2014.
At the tender age of 55, it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing much of Dave in action during his time with the club. But, as we found out at Carlisle, anything is possible on that front…
