Biography

Erm, OK then – it was a bit of a curveball when Boro’ revealed the arrival of Tuğra Turhan on a season-long loan from Turkish Süper Lig side Istanbul Başakşehir in September 2026. It was rare enough for us to sign anyone from Scotland, let alone going across to the other side of Europe for our new recruits. How we came about discovering Turhan is anyone’s guess. But his form and record at such an early age can’t be faulted that much. Rising through the youth ranks at Swiss teans FC Rüti and Zurich’s  iconic Grasshopper, a big move to the Turkish top flight came about in 2025. League One, however, could be very different.

Tuğra Turhan: Before Boro’

Turhan had already made the step up to senior football with Grasshopper by the time his Turkish move came about. After his move to İstanbul Başakşehir in September 2025, the forward initially found himself in their U19 squad. The transfer took him back(?) to his adopted homeland. When we say that, it’s a little bit complicated. Born in Switzerland, Turhan’s roots were very much Turkish. He’s a dual citizen too. Having represented the country of his birth at various youth levels, the forward decided that he was going to make the switch to represent the country of his heritage in 2025.
