Who are British Timken Athletic?
It tells you a lot that, when you Google this side, this profile is one of the top results; such is the apparent dearth of concrete information out there. The team first turns up on the Football Club History Database‘s radar in 1961; joining the United Counties League in Division Two. This makes a lot of sense because that lines up with the fact that British Timken had a base in the Northampton area. And the first two years saw success; finishing second in their maiden season, before winning the title the following campaign.
This promoted them to Division One. But they didn’t manage to see things out at a higher level and were relegated back to Division Two three years later. In 1972, Division Two would become Division One – and we mention this purely for context. A second-place finish in 1974 wasn’t good enough for promotion, so they ended up staying in Division One for the duration; all present and correct when we turned up to that party in 1980. After we went up in 1981, Athletic played on until 1990 – when they departed the league.
And, presumably, no longer existed as a club.
