The Towcester Town that we knew back in the day left the United Counties League in 1993 – seemingly without trace. The 1992-3 campaign was a fairly bleak one for them; losing 32 of their 34 matches and conceding 204 goals in the process. It took 20 years until a men’s team played under that name again.

Towcester Town: The Facts

Who are Towcester Town?

So, what do we know about a club that dropped off the radar in 1993? The answer is “not a lot”. It looks like they joined the Northamptonshire League in 1929. But their stay was a short one; leaving the competition in 1931. Next, we pick up the trail in 1967 when they became members of the South Midlands League. It was a pretty good time for them, all told. They were runners-up in Division One four times in seven seasons. Even better is that one of those three other seasons saw them claim the title.

That said, it’d be their fourth second-placed finish that got them promotion up to the Premier Division. After that, the club spent three years at that level before joining the United Counties League in 1977; bumped into Division One in 1980 when a) we arrived and b) Division Two no longer existed.
