Fejiri Okenabirhie

Biography

Was the decision to let Fejiri Okenabirhie go was the right one? Not if life after the Lamex is anything to go by for the lad; the winger/forward going on to enjoy his time in the Football League. Okenabirhie made his debut for us towards the end of a troubled 2013-4 campaign. And hopes were high that we’d unearthed a gem that would go on to build us back up in League Two. Alas, as it all too often works out for younger players, that chance never really seemed to come. As Graham Westley sought to return us to League One, it didn’t look like Okenabirhie was much in his plans.

As there was no chance to shine, the player had no real opportunity to secure a contract extension. Not even the change in management gave him an opening, and Okenabirhie left the club. At first, he stepped down the ladder and signed for a different Boro’ – Harrow. Yet, it wasn’t long before the forward was then taking the right steps. Two years at Dagenham & Redbridge was a platform to bigger and better things; Shrewsbury Town taking him into League One once again in 2018. More recently, Okenabirhie turned out for Doncaster Rovers – again in League One. It does make you think that he found his level… and it was one above where Boro’ found themselves at.
