Biography

Our summer 2026 business spilled well past the end of the window and into deepest, darkest September; winger Wanya Marçal unveiled midway through the second month of the 2026-27 season. Now, there was no subterfuge or rule-bending going on with all of this. The player had been out of contract after leaving Leicester City at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. So, we were 100% within our rights to snap up the player on a freebie. And, in doing so, we further widened our attacking choices. Not that we had found ourselves with a reputation of struggling to score.

Wanya Marçal: Before Boro’

Marçal’s career started by joining a local academy called Feeder Soccer as a kid. At the age of 10, he was scouted – and snapped up – by Peterborough United. His time with Posh was relatively short, however. After a couple of years, the winger was already moving again. This time, he joined the Foxes and progressed through their youth structure; turning pro in 2021. He made a few appearances for the first team, but had more luck out on loan at De Graafschap in the Netherlands. In addition to his career at domestic level, Marçal has international appearances to his name for Portugal’s U20 side.
