Who Are... Stevenage Borough FC?
Now heading into their 15th consecutive season at the top of the non-league pyramid, Stevenage Borough head into the 2009/10 campaign off the back of a preceding season that was slow to begin but ultimately yielded some silverware by way of the FA Trophy for the second time in three years. But there could have been so much more in Graham Westley's first year back in charge had the season got underway in the same manner in which it ended. Still searching for that elusive promotion berth, Boro' inexplicably capitulated in the second leg of the playoff semi-final against Cambridge and missed out for another season.

Graham Westley's return to the Lamex Stadium wasn't universally welcomed at the time, but it soon became apparent that he was the right man to lead Boro' at the right time. Steadying the ship after a turbulent 2008/9 campaign following the departures of Mark Stimson and Peter Taylor, to secure a playoff spot was commendable to say the least. And it owed much to an excellent record from late December onwards; form that would have been snapped up by a title contender. The signings of Chris Day, Mark Roberts and Darren Murphy consolidated a decent-looking squad that needed little altering during the 2009 close season except up front to cover the departure of goalscorer extraordinaire, Steve Morison

As they say, the Blue Square Premier is looking as tough as ever, and competition for the top five places will be as fierce as ever. But Boro' only need to look at starting the season as they ended the last to give themselves the best possible shot of earning a much-yearned for place in the Football League at the umpteenth time at asking. With the relegation of Woking, Boro' are now the longest-serving club at the peak of non-league football - it's time to end that run but in a positive manner. It's conceivable the battle to reach the top will be riddled with obstacles, but he who dares Rodney, he who dares...
