With Stevenage manager Graham Westley looking to build a new empire at the Lamex Stadium in his third spell at the club, midfielder Dean Parrett was recruited in October 2013 in order to help make that happen. London-born Parrett started out on the books of QPR as a youth player, before he was snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur in 2007.

It was at Spurs that Parrett turned professional, and he made his first team debut for the North London outfit in the UEFA Cup against Shakhtar Donetsk in February 2009. First team opportunities at White Hart Lane were always going to be limited with the wealth of talent at Spurs' disposal, so the player found first team opportunities out on loan.

The first port of call was Aldershot Town for a month's loan. Despite the Shots' keenness to retain him, Parrett returned to Spurs after just four games. He was handed a new Spurs deal in 2010 and then moved to Plymouth Argyle on what was supposed to be a season-long loan. However, that was ended by mutual agreement in November that year.

Further loan spells came courtesy of Charlton Athletic, Yeovil Town and Swindon Town - all offering the chance for Parrett to gain some valuable first team experience in the Football League. But upon his return from Swindon at the end of the 2012/3 season, the midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements and was released by the Premier League club.

With that Football League experience and England honours at U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels, it seemed as if Graham Westley had pulled off a coup to bring Parrett to the Lamex - even more so given the reported interest from Derby County and Shrewsbury Town. With Parrett joining Boro's midfield ranks, it ensured the club had plenty of strength in that position for the remainder of the 2013/4 campaign.
