Throughout the 2004/5 season, Rob Quinn's role within the squad was perhaps greatly understated, particularly towards the end of the campaign when a playoff place was at stake. Often showing a great deal of versatility, the former Bristol Rovers man was able to slot both into the centre of the defence, as well as his favoured central midfield role.

The midfielder was also able to provide a holding role when Boro' were looking to defend a tight lead, or simply to release other midfielders to attack forward. Memorable goals against Hendon and Scarborough in the 2004/5 season are a distant memory now, as Quinn gradually fell out of favour towards the end of the 2005/6 season and ultimately found himself being released in the summer of 2006.

The signatures of Adam Miller and Luke Oliver in particular restricted the positions in which Quinn would perhaps play, and inevitably a departure was not going to shock many, however unfortunate it has to sometimes be.
