Are The Playoffs Still In Sight For Stuttering Stevenage FC?

Boro’ had high hopes heading into the latest League Two season, with a spot in the playoffs in our sights after the summer. But things haven’t gone exactly according to plan for the club so far; Boro’ now stuttering and struggling for points. They now sit down in an unpromising 11th position in the table after 16 league outings, much further down than they would have hoped and expected at this stage of the term.

So, The Playoffs?

Will the playoffs be returning to the Lamex Stadium this season?

With Stevenage having fallen well off the pace in regards to battling for the League Two title this current campaign too, they are seen as massive 100/1 outsiders in the football betting market to achieve such a mammoth feat this term.

But the club will still have some hope for claiming a spot in the playoffs come next year in League Two. They have plenty more fixtures to come in a long and gruelling season ahead. The Broadhall Way outfit are only three points adrift of the playoff positions that they truly want to be in. Hope, therefore, isn’t lost. Form is what has fans worrying of sailing further away from those spots this coming campaign, however.

Manager Darren Sarll has previously ripped into his players for truly underwhelming results and even worse performances so far this current season already. This includes the disastrous 3-0 defeat at the hands of Yeovil Town and the even more damaging 7-1 demolition against Luton Town earlier in the term. The 34-year-old manager has been in charge of the side from last year and will look to overcome this unfortunate run of results so far this current campaign.

His players are clearly low on confidence and momentum this term, with such a nightmare run halting their progress. Is this stalling them from gaining any momentum? They will need a surge of form and fortune in order to get back on track and return to the race for a playoff position this season.  They have plenty of teams ahead of them also in the running, though, and those who are also in much better form.

Competition for the Playoffs

The likes of Coventry City, Swindon Town, Exeter City and Luton Town are riding high at the moment. And they perhaps look more likely to gain the much-desired playoff spots. Meanwhile, it’s Notts County that are flying the highest; leading the standings so far, after opening a promising gap over their closest challengers.

Although, Accrington Stanley are also in the hunt for the title and have started strongly in their season ventures. It will take an upset or better results in order to kickstart proceedings for Boro, however. We’re looking up at those sides in the positions they wish to be in.

Sarll has a tough task ahead of him in overturning his team’s form. And, yet, he is still confident of doing so.
