Dry January Is Over…

Bad News Bears... Sheringham Leaves Stevenage

… here’s Punchdrunk February. We were happy enough, bimbling along on Transfer Deadline Day with just a handful of deals to keep us occupied as Aaron O’Connor made his stay permanent and Pat Hoban came in from Oxford. And then “KABLAMMO!” – the nuclear option is chosen and Boro’ are searching for a new gaffer as Teddy Sheringham leaves Stevenage, exiting stage left.

Sheringham Leaves Stevenage: What Next?

Is Teddy’s departure the right move? Many are probably nodding furiously right about now, having failed to see Boro’ win any of their last eight League Two outings. We had already felt the need to prepare a post mortem of the club’s pretty rubbish stretch of form during the first month of 2016, with just two points collected from five games since the turn of the year.

It’s amazing that we’re still eight points clear of the drop zone to be honest with you, but handing York all three points wasn’t the best idea. The Minstermen have drawn level with the Daggers on 20 points, and both have two games in hand on us. If things go a bit Woking on us, that lead will be down to two points when we’re all on a level playing field as far as games played go.

OK, so it’s not all that likely that the drop zone duo will take six points from the six on offer in those two on hand, but still…

So, where next for Boro’ – apart from the next game or so under the guidance of Sarlly? Well, Borochat will no doubt mention at least every gaffer out of work at the moment and the latest football betting news will have lists based on, well, sources, little birdies… who knows! Seeing as we love a one-month loan deal this season, maybe we’ll bring in three temporary managers between now and May to steer us through?

Or maybe not.

All we know at this point in time is that Darren Sarll takes charge of the team, we have Crawley indoors on Saturday and PW is reported to have a potential replacement for Teddy in his crosshairs. Anything else can be left to your own imagination for now – there’s a team in red and white that need supporting while the next Brave New World is built behind those boardroom doors.
