Grim Reapers

Good evening to the assorted band of football enthusiasts and Boro’ well-wishers out there. Yes, let’s join old Uncle BoroGuide at the fireside and peer into the flames; trying to make some sense of where our fine side are at three lessons into the new term. Oh, and to have a cursory glance at the future if it should show itself in the glowing embers. So, we’re aiming to be hot this week – but who do we want to be not? Soz, Grimsby Town. Our town isn’t renowned for providing safe harbour to Mariners. Have you seen the depth of the Roaring Meg?

The Opposition:
If we end up on the right side of the result in this one, we’ll – at least – pull level on aggregate with our friends from the south side of the ‘Umber. For, despite a solid two-goal win indoors last time we exchanged pennants, it was only halfway to dishing out the treatment we got from them at their place. As first impressions go, we didn’t think much of Grimsby. Is it really the done thing to stick five goals past a team on a first meeting? How far would you go on a first date? Actually, don’t answer that. We don’t think we want to know…

As it goes, the lads who found the net in our last meeting: Steven Schumacher and Jobi McAnuff. We’ll have to call on someone else this time. That chap Dan Newton looks like he knows where the net is. He’ll certainly do!

The Form:
If you’re using the first two results to give you an idea of the final table, that’s your prerogative. A point from what had seemed like a banker against Newport was not great; a draw at Colchester, meanwhile, was as good as we’ve done against them in seven meetings. As for David Grimblesby, a win at Chesterfield was followed up with a defeat at home to Coventry. So, what do you make of that? Buggered if we know. It’s the third league fixture of the season. What are you expecting to know by now?

Here’s the last six for both overall from kickoff.co.uk, plus the last six home (us) and last six away (them)
