Fresh from our sublime weekend win against the orange-clad Hatters of Luton, up next are the tangerine-clad Seasiders of Blackpool. Boro’ are being kept in the road for our latest League Two outing, though it’s much further than a short hop across the Herts/Beds border. And, here, we have another one of those great examples of the fixture computer playing silly buggers. A nice-looking away day left stranded in the wastelands of midweek scheduling. Yeah, cheers!
We can say little more about our current run of form. We’re on a red-hot streak, passing a stern-looking test at Kenilworth Road with flying colours. So, let’s talk about Blackpool instead – and what we can expect from our latest audition for promotion. The former Premier League club are in fine fettle themselves, unbeaten in six. Their last defeat came on Valentine’s Day, losing 2-0 at Fratton Park to our next oppo: Portsmouth. And, with three points between themselves and the top seven, promotion is firmly on the table for the Tangerines too.
Blackpool v Stevenage: Bright Eyes
Unbeaten in six, yes, but the wider picture since the turn of the year for Blackpool is almost bizarre. Gary Bowyer’s men have won three and drawn eight of the 12 fixtures to be played this side of Auld Lang Syne‘s annual airing. Plymouth (currently in 2nd) and Carlisle (5th) account for two of those wins. So, here we have a team more than capable of upsetting applecarts. If there is anything we can take from the latest data from soccerstats.com, it is that Blackpool have let in at least one goal in 76% of their matches indoors.
Matt Godden shouldn’t need much in the way of second invitation.
In head-to-head matters, we’ve just the one meeting to look back on. Two late goals meant Blackpool left the Lamex with all three points. That’s about as much as we’re going to say on that one too. Since late January, it’s been like watching a different team. The formula that Darren Sarll has developed is proving to be a mighty effective one. It comes at just the right time too. We’re now in the home straight and a run of fixtures that’ll test our mettle. Are we up to it? Well, if the last nine has taught us anything it’s that we are and then some.

OK, so Boro’ look good at the moment. But, are we this good? Of course, we don’t doubt the all-knowing FIFA 17. And, to be fair, the verdict we bring forth from the digital world is under our guidance. The blame perhaps lies us with us. If we take it to be a prophet for the modern age, then we’ll go in for a three-nil win at the best odds. Two for Matty Godden, and one for Charlie Lee too. We’re sure that Blackpool will get closer to the Boro’ goal in real life than they did in the virtual one, however. Maybe we need to try a harder setting…
