Monday Lunchtime Stat Attack

By BoroGuide

And we are off and running. As Gary Smith so eloquently put it, “if you can’t win the game, don’t get beaten” – a decent enough philosophy from which to work from. Of course, it may be argued that Saturday’s game was a little out of the ordinary – temperatures that high are not on the cards for the rest of the campaign. But our brand new Gary Smith All Stars have avoided defeat. Objective #1, no?

Anyway, here’s some points of order for you to concern yourself with:

– Saturday was the first time Boro’ and Carlisle have drawn (thanks Michael Warner…)
– It was also the first time Boro’ had failed to beat Carlisle at home
– Boro’s record against Carlisle United now reads: P6, W3, D1, L2, F6, A5

– It is the fourth successive season that Boro’ have opened at home and with a draw
– Stevenage haven’t won on the first day of the season since beasting Alty in 2005
– … but Stevenage haven’t lost at home on the first day since 1982.

– Boro’s Opening Day Record: P32, W14, D10, L8, F52, A37
– Boro’s Opening Day Record (Home): P18, W9, D8, L1, F34, A13
(We don’t know about 1981)

Therefore, drawing 40 per cent of home openers prior to Saturday makes the result a little bit to type. Next up is Leyton Orient, a team we’ve never lost away to. Make of that what you will…
