Danny Williams's signature was secured during the summer of 2005, after the winger had been released by Hereford United after Boro' knocked them out of the Conference playoffs. The former Chesterfield man was brought in to occupy the right side of midfield, and offered a great deal of pace in that position.
With the departure of Jon Brady in the same summer, the position on the right of midfield seemed to be Williams' to make his. Yet, Williams struggled to impose himself as a first team regular, making almost four times as many appearances from the bench as he did actually starting.
Injury also conspired against Williams' hopes to become Boro's first choice right winger, and by the end of the season Williams found himself looking for a new club. One could not help but wonder what could have been if Boro' could have seen the best form of the player.
