With Stevenage going into 2012 looking to follow up a hugely successful previous year, the Hertfordshire club moved relatively quickly in snapping up young Everton midfielder James Wallace on a loan deal during the January window. The arrival bolstered a midfield lacking the influential John Mousinho, who at the time was out injured.

Wallace joined the Toffees at the tender age of 13-years-old. He made his senior debut in the Europa League in August 2009 but was put out of action until the following year by a double hernia. After his return to fitness, the midfielder was loaned out to gain experience in the Football League; Stevenage was to be his fourth port of call.

A sign of his talent is the fact that Wallace had gained international recognition with the England U19 and U20 squads.

Inexplicably, however, the midfielder was released from his loan arrangement with Boro' before he had even been given the chance to play. It is not clear whether the January 2012 managerial changes had contributed to the situation, but Boro' fans never had the opportunity to see what the young midfielder was capable of.
