Debut:
By the time Mark Smith arrived for his second spell at Stevenage Borough in 2003, he had already firmly established himself as one of the club's modern greats and among a select handful of players to have represented the club hundreds - literally hundreds - of times.
A Conference champion during his first and longer stint at Broadhall Way, Smith was a Conference champion and a robust performer at the highest end of the non-league pyramid. It came as almost a surprise when he was allowed to leave to join Dagenham & Redbridge in 2001.
Smith made his return to the club under the tenure of Graham Westley as additional experience was sought to shore up the Boro' defence. Needless to say, the signing of Smith brought back a player who had as much experience - particularly of everything Stevenage - as any man could have wished for.
In his later years, the defender moved up the road to Hitchin Town and entered the realm of football management. Whether he could still replicate the agilty of his acrobatic clearance against Newcastle United is a cheeky wager that probably remains to be made.
