Brought into the first team squad by manager Graham Westley after impressing in the Boro' youth team, Gary Schillaci was amongst a handful of players that had proved themselves worthy of the transition between youth and first team squads.
Indeed, during the 2005/6 season, Schillaci was handed a squad number as a sign of the promise that Boro' saw in him. However, it didn't seem to work out, and Schillaci was released at the end of the 2005/6 season having just made one substitute appearance in an LDV Trophy tie at Swindon.
Having spent time on loan at clubs lower down the pyramid, there was no reason why Schillaci wouldn't find a club to establish himself.
