James Russell was a young goalkeeper snapped up from Chelsea and who displayed early promise in his limited outings for the Boro' first team. However, the arrival of Graham Westley also signalled the arrivals of Chris Day and Ashley Bayes, who jumped the queue ahead of Russell.
Demoted to third choice, and having already spent time on loan at Canvey Island, it became increasingly apparent that Russell's first-team options seem to lay elsewhere. The player moved onto Canvey Island in 2008.
