Originally signed by Mark Stimson in 2007, Lawrie Wilson made a slow start to his career at Broadhall Way. Players ahead of him in the pecking order cemented their position in the Boro' line-up and made it difficult for the right-sided player to force his way into contention on the right.
The influx of loan signings under the stewardship of Peter Taylor also failed to provide the stability and settled atmosphere needed for Wilson to make an impact. But he started to impress and, under Graham Westley, developed into a tenacious player with plenty of gusto and determination.
A sickening leg-break against Rushden and Diamonds cut Wilson's season to an abrupt end during the early stages of the 2009/10 campaign. But he returned to consolidate Boro's run-in towards the title after completing a superb recovery, re-establishing himself as a key performer for the club.
Wilson was among the Conference-winning graduates that stepped up to the next level when Boro' embarked on their Football League adventure. With determined runs down the right flank, the player combined with Ronnie Henry to present a formidable combination in League Two, and again in League One.
Undaunted by yet another step up in 2011, Wilson remained an integral fixture in the team that nearly made it three successive promotions. But after Westley and a number of colleagues moved on, the chance to move onto pastures new in 2012 was one that the he decided to take.
