Debut: vs Burton Albion (H), 19/10/2002
Richard Pacquette joined Boro' in October 2002 from second division outfit QPR, where he was finding first team opportunities hard to come by. The loan deal was originally only for one-month, however, this was twice extended by a further month each time.
This young talent was brought in to gain first team experience and in the hope he could provide some goalscoring prowess, which was lacking after Kirk Jackson and Jean-Michel Sigere departed.
He managed to get on the scoresheet four times in his 10 matches with his pace and flair, along with his ability to hold up the ball always causing a threat. However, his inexperience showed as he received two red cards, putting him on the side-lines for seven matches.
His Boro' career started with a quiet debut in the 1-0 loss at home to Burton Albion. His first Boro' goal came in the next match as the winning goal in Boro's 2-1 victory over Swansea in the LDV Vans 1st round followed by a goal away to Southport in a match where Mr Probert with the help of Jones, the Southport captain saw fit to send him off for two fouls not even worthy of caution.
Pacquete went on to add to his LDV Vans goal collection with a goal against Luton Town before seeing red for the second time in his short spell away to Halifax. Another unbelievable refereeing decision, this time from Mr. Mellor, saw Packers receiving his marching orders after jumping up to contest a ball only for Monington to collapse to the floor holding his head.
Mr Mellor was happy to let it go until he saw a cut, which lead him to hastily brandish the red card. Packers would return to score his final Boro' goal against Scarborough before having to serve a number of games suspension.
Wayne Turner was dismissed from his role as Boro' manager and after bagging four goals in his 10 matches, John Dreyer allowed Packers to return to QPR where he was given his opportunity in the first team. He went on to score a number of goals and was rewarded with a start in QPR's play-off final defeat to Cardiff.
I, along with most of the Boro' faithful wish Richard all the best with his career and hope he goes on to fantastic things, which i am sure he can achieve with his talent.
