Highly-rated young winger Jay O'Shea joined Boro' somewhat out of the blue in October 2010 as Premier League side Birmingham City sought to provide the Irishman with first team action to further his development.

With Stevenage finding their feet in the Football League, Graham Westley was happy to oblige with Blues counterpart Alex McLeish's efforts to provide O'Shea with a place to get some pitch time under his belt.

A product of the Irish league set-up, O'Shea moved from Home Farm onto Bray Wanderers, before catching the eye at Galway United. Able to play as a striker, the player finished as United's top goalscorer during the 2008 season and earned himself a move to the Premier League in 2009.

O'Shea's Premier League debut was no more challenging than a second half appearance against Manchester United, before starting his first game in a League Cup fixture against Southampton. However, in a bid to provide more first team chances, he moved to Middlesbrough on loan in 2010 but made just two appearances.

Stevenage would be his next loan port of call, but for just seven games. He later appeared at Port Vale on loan in the 2010/1 season.
