Having made one appearance from the bench during the 1989/90 season, Colin McGill's progress at the heart of the youth team's defence meant that he was rewarded with a starting berth for the first team against Basildon United at the start of the 1990/1 campaign. Bearing in mind it was his first full season, to register 50 starts is a pointer to just how far the player had come in a short space of time.
