Stacy Long arrived at Stevenage in 2009 as a highly-rated midfielder who had established his credentials in the Blue Square Premier following his stay at Ebbsfleet United. Formerly of Notts County and Charlton Athletic, the relative youngster aimed to keep his career moving on an upward curve.
It is arguably the case that financial issues forced Ebbsfleet's hand in the transfer of Long to Broadhall Way, but Graham Westley has developed a knack of picking up handy midfielders and Long has had a positive effect upon the Boro' team.
Competition for places was fierce in the middle of the park, but was to the club's benefit in fostering a determined mentality; one that saw Long desperate to make his mark at every opportunity he was afforded. Five goals from 20 starts illustrated his all-round ability in his debut season.
Featuring sporadically during the club's debut season in the Football League, Long was not shy of chipping in with valuable contributions. A goal against Accrington Stanley in the playoffs and a significant contribution against Newcastle United in the 2010/1 FA Cup being stand-out moments.
Stats do not include expunged Chester City fixtures in 2009/10.
