Always a dependable player, Barry Laker played both at centre-back and left-back over the course of his Boro' career, which saw the former Farnborough defender pass his century of Boro' appearances during the 2005/6 season.

Although not used a great deal in that campaign - making 24 starts - Laker's role within the squad was very much an understated one. As the season ended, the defender found himself on the bench in a coaching capacity. He announced his retirement at the end of the 2005/6 season.

Some remarkable performances in a Boro' shirt will have endeared himself to Boro' fans and his retirement brings to an end a much appreciated spell at Broadhall Way.
