Charlie Griffin arrived at Stevenage Borough with mighty big shoes to fill in the summer of 2009 following the departure of goalscorer extraordinaire, Steve Morison. However, it just so happens that Griffin himself comes with a pedigree for scoring goals judging on his performance during the 2008/9 campaign.

Despite being part of a struggling Salisbury City side, he notched more than 20 league goals over the course of the season and could plug a gap that would otherwise be desperate to fill.

It was encouraging that a man who can score freely at the wrong end of the table had arrived at a team with greater resources and greater aspirations, and delivered a healthy return in a 2009/10 season that didn't always allow him to play as regularly as he may have wished.

A sickening injury in the 2010 FA Trophy final ended Griffin's Championship-winning season slightly earlier than intended but he made a full recovery to be part of Boro's first steps into the Football League. But chances were limited and in January 2011 he moved to Newport County on loan.

When the 2011 summer rolled around, it was uncertain whether Griffin would be retained after Boro's promotion to League One. A combination of factors was to ultimately determine Griffin's next move - a switch to Forest Green Rovers and one closer to his family.

Stats do not include expunged Chester City fixtures in 2009/10.
